The Elite Photo Studio collection consists of photographs of Native Americans mainly from the Northwest. It also includes a photograph of small totem poles in a studio. All the photographs are on mounts printed with "The Elite Studio, Nanaimo, B.C." The photographs may possibly have been collected by E.C. Shaw.

The Elite Photo Studio in Nanaimo, British Columbia, established in January of 1893, was operated by Larss and Pierce (Per Edward Larss and Wesley Cunningham Pierce). They sold a combination of landscape views, portraits and photographs of various subjects, including Northwest coast Indians.
